The XB-100 Horizontal Base lets you sharpen tools with the grinding wheel rotating away from the edge (edge trailing) rather than into it (edge leading). This is particularly beneficial when sharpening woodturning gouges with the SVD-186 R Gouge Jig, as edge-leading sharpening with this jig can cause the blade to catch on the grinding wheel.

The XB-100 Horizontal Base also enables you to hone tools using the universal support and jigs, allowing for edge-trailing honing. This lets you set the jig for optimal precision during the honing process.
