- Designed to check for a board's flatness or twist.
- Winding sticks are not a new concept; woodworkers have been making them from scrap wood for years to check the flatness of materials.
- Placed at opposite ends of a wooden board, the winding sticks highlight any twist in the wood, making it much easier to spot and correct. With the winding sticks in position, sight along their top edges. If the edges are parallel, the board is flat. Move the winding sticks and repeat the process to inspect the entire wooden board.
- Unlike wooden versions of the winding sticks, Lee Valleys extruded aluminium ones will stay dimensionally stable and straight.
- The satin black anodized finish on one side helps minimize glare, while the machined section on the opposite side offers contrast making it easier to see any twists in the wood when eyeing across the tops of the winding sticks.
- Machined grooves in the winding sticks are spaced 1/8" apart, allowing for easy estimation of twist and the amount of material to be removed.
- The two 18" long sticks fit together for compact storage and feature hanging holes for convenience.
